Insurify Review 2019

BravoDollar Editor rating:

Insurify allows you to compare several estimated auto insurance quotes from insurance companies conveniently on their website. However, you won’t be able to compare quotes from the largest companies such as State Farm, Geico, Progressive, and AllState who may offer the cheapest rates.

About Insurify (insurify.com)

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Cambridge, MA, Insurify is one of the more impressive an insurance marketplaces on the web. The company is backed by MassMutual Ventures and Nationwide Ventures and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Forbes, and more. Not impressed yet? Insurify is brought to you by the same team that has “built and grown startups and comes from top technology companies like TripAdvisor, Amazon, KAYAK, and JP Morgan.”

Of course, none of that matters if the company can’t deliver, and Insurify certainly delivers. Insurify works with some of the nation’s biggest national and regional insurance providers to help drivers in all 50 states find the lowest auto insurance quotes. Some of the companies they work with include Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, AAA, AARP, Esurance, 21st Century, Capital Insurance, Erie Insurance, Mercury, National General, and more. Insurify provides more quotes than your average quote comparison website, and the company claims to save customers an average of $489 a year on car insurance.

You’ll notice that Insurify doesn’t work with the biggest car insurance companies such as State Farm, Geico, AllState, and Progressive. So, if you really want to compare quotes of these companies, you have to look elsewhere. (Spoiler alert: We will explain the reason why Insurify doesn’t have quotes from these biggest companies below)

Insurify Ratings & Consumer Complaints

Insurify doesn’t have much of a presence with the Better Business Bureau. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, but isn’t accredited with the BBB (this simply means the company hasn’t sought accreditation). There are no reviews and one customer complaint, which Insurify addressed.

ConsumersAdvocate gives Insurify an overall rating of “Very Good” and focuses on the company’s Financial Strength, Pricing & Discounts, and Claims Satisfaction & Customer Experience.

Likewise, Insurify has a glowing presence with Clearsurance. Nearly half of the reviews are “Excellent” and focus on Insurify’s easy-to-use website and saving money and time. Also:

  • 69% of customers reported a positive user experience.
  • 65% of customers gave a positive rating for how their info was used.
  • 56% of customers would recommend to a friend.

Insurify has a 3.8 average customer rating among HighYa reviewers, with the majority of reviews being positive. There are a few negative reviews — for issues like a lack of quotes and inaccurate quotes — but it’s helpful to note those are older reviews.

How to Compare Car Insurance Quotes With Insurify?

You can get quotes from Insurify online or by phone

Be prepared to give standard information about yourself and any other driver, your vehicle, and your auto insurance.

  • Yourself and Other Drivers: full name; date of birth; gender; age at first license; license status; education level; job industry; credit rating; possible discount information (own your home? employed? married? student? military/veteran? aaa member?); any accidents/tickets/claims in the last seven years.
  • Vehicle(s): make; model; year; trim; body style; primary use; own, finance, or lease.
  • Current Auto Insurance: whether you’re currently insured; current carrier, policy expiration date; how long insured; whether you have collision or comprehensive coverage.

Insurify allows you to select the discounts that you may be qualified for in the application, which is quite convenient for users.

Once you enter your details and save your profile, you can choose whether you want to see quotes for the state minimum, standard, asset, or premium coverage — or even custom coverage where you can add or remove collision and comprehensive coverage, roadside assistance, car rental coverage, and policy length.

Can I compare quotes of several insurance companies on Insurify?

You’ll see numerous auto insurance quotes; I received more than 10 (this is more than I’ve received with other marketplaces), and most of them were at or a bit below the average for my state, according to Insurify’s statistics. Additionally, you can adjust the factors above to immediately get adjusted quotes, as well as sign up to get notifications of price drops.

However, you will notice that I don’t get quotes from the top companies: State Farm, Geico, AllState, and Progressive. I wonder why these top 4 companies do not provide quotes on Insurify. When I asked the associate, she said that they did not receive quotes back from these companies, which is a bit weird since my current insurer is State Farm.

After doing a bit more investigation into this, I believe that like compare.com and the Zebra marketplaces, Insurify chooses the approach of displaying estimated quotes of other insurance companies to users on their websites, which State Farm, Geico, AllState, and Progressive disapprove. Therefore, these 4 companies do not work with Insurify and that’s the reason why I do not get quotes from these 4 companies.

Other insurance marketplaces like netQuote, EverQuote, and QuoteWizard choose a different approach, which is not to display estimated quotes to consumers on their website. Instead, they will direct consumers to carriers’ website to get quotes directly from carriers. Big insurance companies like State Farm, Geico, AllState, and Progressive approve of this approach and work with these marketplaces. Learn more about the business model of these marketplaces here.

While quotes from carriers’ websites will be more accurate, it also requires consumers to do more work to be able to compare quotes since they have to get one quote at a time. And consumers on Insurify, the Zebra, and compare.com can compare quotes from several insurance companies, although they won’t be able to compare quotes from the biggest insurance companies who might offer the cheapest rates.

Can I buy a car insurance policy on Insurify?

No, you have to buy the insurance policy from the insurance companies on the their websites. When you choose a policy, you’ll see a detailed summary including the specific coverage types, required down payment, monthly payment amounts, policy length, and more. Insurify will transfer you to the provider you choose where you can complete the buying process; however, be aware that your final quote from the provider might differ slightly from the quote Insurify gives you. This is fairly standard when you work with online insurance brokers and marketplaces, as the actual provider’s agents might find additional information that could affect your final quote.

The Pros & Cons of Getting Quotes from Insurify

Pros:

  • Licensed in all 50 states.
  • Work with many regional insurance providers.
  • Provide many quotes for consumers to compare on their website, which makes it very convenient to consumers.
  • You can make adjustments to quotes to reflect coverage type, policy length, etc.
  • You can sign up for price drop notifications.
  • You don’t get bombarded with unnecessary emails.*

Cons:

  • Insurify won’t be able to provide you with quotes of the biggest companies such as State Farm, Geico, Progressive, and AllState.
  • You won’t be able to buy insurance companies on Insurify website. This is the main drawback of all insurance marketplaces. They are not insurance brokers who can sell you a policy.

Final Thoughts

When you want to receive and compare multiple car insurance quotes conveniently without being subjected to email and phone harassment, you want to try Insurify.
