Best Pet Insurance in Idaho 2020

Many factors go into determining how much insurance premiums cost, like location and assessed risk of the insured. Pet insurance is no different, with premiums changing based on where you live. So below we’ll look at the best pet insurance in Idaho 2020, taking into account premiums and what’s available in your state.

Pet Insurance Costs in Idaho for Dogs and Cats

To get an idea of what pet insurance premiums look like across the state, we took a sample of five different zip codes in Idaho. We compared a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever and a 1-year-old Domestic Long Hair cat, since Banfield Pet Hospital lists these as the most common pets in Idaho.

We took quotes from Embrace Pet Insurance to keep price comparisons even. We also chose Embrace because it offers one comprehensive plan and is one of the largest pet insurers in the U.S. We entered a $500 deductible, an 80% reimbursement and a $15,000 annual limit.

Now there’s a boring chart. But for the Idaho zip codes we entered, prices stayed even across different counties. This is interesting that Idaho premiums stay steady, as large cities alone can vary in premiums between zip codes, sometimes drastically.

Common Illnesses Among Dogs and Cats in Idaho

According to Banfield Pet Hospital, the most common diseases for cats and dogs in Idaho are:

  • Overweight and Obesity
  • Dental Disease
  • Otitis Externa (ear infection)

What this means for finding the best pet insurance in Idaho 2020 is that you might want to consider coverage for these types of conditions, since they are so common in Idaho. For instance, check what the policy covers in terms of dental conditions. Some don’t cover dental at all, some cover only limited issues and others may have dental coverage add-ons.

If your pet is prone to obesity, consider a wellness plan that covers nutritional supplements and routine wellness exams.  Learn more about pet insurance that covers preventative care

Types of Best Pet Insurance in Idaho 2020

In Idaho, you have three main types of coverage available to you. They are:

  • Accident-only: These cover the treatment of your pet when they get into an accident. Since coverage is limited, this is often a budget-friendly option.
  • Comprehensive: These plans may cover illness, injury and accidents. As such, they tend to be more expensive than accident-only coverage.
  • Wellness: These are often add-ons to base pet insurance plans. They may cover preventative, routine and wellness care. Some may work as a money-back reimbursement program, however.

It’s important to keep in mind that no pet insurance covers pre-existing conditions, though some may if the condition is deemed curable in a certain timeframe. You can learn more about pre-existing conditions here.
